The Digital Media Project has worked across Swansea Communities First areas, delivering ICT training and taster sessions, and working with local residents produce Green Maps of their community.

The Digital Media Project worked with Castle Communities First, Local Residents and a dedicated team of volunteers to produce the latest in the Green Map series, the Castle Community Map (see Downloads).

Through consultation, residents highlighted important local projects in their communities that they thought should be included on the map, and a training course in IT and digital photography led to a group of residents taking photos of these places for the map. The volunteers helped to compile the information, upload information onto the Open Green Map website,  and also took a number of photos to be included on the map.

The Digital Media Project developed from the Planet Penlan Project, which involved working with the Communities First area of Penlan to provide ICT Training and sustainability education, which produced a local Green Map of the area. From July 2008 the Digital Media Project expanded to work in five Communities First areas across Swansea; Graig Felin, Bonnymaen, Blaenymaes, Castle and Clase, offering taster sessions to find out where to deliver the next phase of the project.

Due to a funding extension, the IT and Digital Photography Courses are now available to be run in communities across Swansea. Please contact Kathy Tate if you would like to host a course or if you are interested in attending, on 01792 480200 or kathryn@environmentcentre.org.uk
